Book of Hours, Paris c. 1485-90
Illuminated manuscript written in Latin on vellum. With 101 miniatures (18 full page or large and 83 smaller) by the Master of the Chronique Scandaleuse
One of the richest hours by this artist. The coat of arms, as well as the devotion to and portrait of Saint Francis, tell us that this book was made for Françoise of Bellecombe, a Burgundian aristocrat. The manuscript later belonged to Edmond de Rothschild (his manuscript 40) and his daughter, Alexandrine.
